Yakut Fuel and Energy Company Revises Development Strategy Amid New Economic and Technological Trends

PJSC Yakut Fuel and Energy Company (YATEC) is revising its development strategy in line with current economic realities and emerging technological trends.

Yakut Fuel and Energy Company Revises Development Strategy Amid New Economic and Technological Trends

The company has decided to suspend the implementation of the Yakut LNG project and focus on new gas monetization opportunities related to powering digital and high-tech industries.

YATEC will remain primarily a gas production company, while the core concept of the updated strategy is to use natural gas as a foundation for energy-intensive projects such as data centers, cryptocurrency mining, and cloud computing. The company itself will not build or operate digital infrastructure directly. These projects will be developed by partners interested in long-term gas supplies and the expansion of digital infrastructure in the region.

At the first stage, YATEC’s partners have commenced construction of facilities with a total generation capacity of 200 MW. In the long term, Yakutia could become the largest hub for energy-intensive digital projects in the Russian Far East, creating new opportunities for regional development.

YATEC’s resource base provides a solid foundation for the new business model: audited recoverable natural gas reserves amount to 774.4 billion cubic meters, while potential gas supplies to the domestic market and digital projects are estimated at over 7.6 billion cubic meters per year. This ensures a stable production level for more than 60 years.

The company views the updated strategy as a natural stage in its evolution — from traditional energy operations toward participation in emerging technological markets that enhance business sustainability and drive Yakutia’s development.

Among the support measures under consideration is the creation of an International Advanced Development Territory (IADT) in Central Yakutia. This special economic regime would help reduce logistics costs, stabilize the tax burden, and attract additional investment to the region.

Building on 57 years of operational experience, YATEC leverages its low production costs and strong engineering expertise to confidently pursue a course of innovation and sustainable growth — ensuring reliable energy supply and contributing to Russia’s digital future.
