NGV FUEL
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), or propane-butane (a mix of propane C3H8 and butane C4H10) is one of the most common types of alternative fuel.
LPG is a mix of propane, normal butane, isobutane, propylene, ethane, ethylene, and other hydrocarbons. It is obtained as a petrochemical product at oil refineries or during oil and natural gas production.
First, it’s rather high boiling point at ambient pressure, allowing for storage of liquefied propane-butane mix in an operation temperature range from -40 °С to +45 °С at relatively low pressure (up to 1.6 MPa).
LPG does not change or lose its properties for a long time, it does not degrade. LPG octane rating is better than that of gasoline and diesel, and ranges within 90-110 depending on the propane to butane ratio in the mix.
LPG energy efficiency is lower than with traditional fuels due to a low energy capacity per volume unit. It increases consumption for combustion by 10-20 % compared to gasoline but is offset by its price being twice lower. LPG combustion is more efficient and safe in an engine even at a cold start, and relatively clean, without smoke or ash, i. e. it is more environmentally friendly.
LPG advantages compared to diesel fuel:
